BUSHKILL, PA – Any performance by the famed Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra is cause for celebration, and Mountain Laurel Center for the Performing Arts takes full advantage by staging a Gala Benefit party in the Lakehouse Theater before the Boston Pops concert at the center on Monday, August 20. The gala, which will honor Robert Uguccioni, Executive Director of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, is co-chaired by Andrew Forte, Chairman of MLCPA, and longtime center supporter Rosemary Driebe Olofsson and will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the concert at 8 p.m. For information on gala tickets, please contact C.J. America's most-recorded and most-televised orchestra, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra returns for a third visit to Mountain Laurel Center under the baton of charismatic conductor Keith Lockhart. This year's Boston Pops program, A Tribute to Oscar and Tony, again includes husband-and-wife Broadway megastars Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley as they reprise their magnificent performances from last season, joining the Pops to highlight the best music of Hollywood and Broadway.

Gala tickets will include pre-performance cocktails and dinner reception and reserved performance seating; dress code “casually elegant.” Gala tickets are $150 per person. Tickets to the concert alone range from $45 to $65 in the Tom Ridge Pavilion and $25 for lawn seating, and are available via Ticketmaster at 570.693.4100, through Ticketmaster outlets, online at mountainlaurelcenter.com, or by visiting MLCPA’s on-site box office.

“We are delighted to honor Bob Ugoccioni, who has been such an ardent supporter of Mountain Laurel Center, for his tireless work in promoting us to visitors, tourists and locals alike,” said Richard T. Bryant, President and CEO of the center. “This will be the perfect way to spend a summer evening, and the perfect lead-in to this return appearance by one of our audience favorites, the Boston Pops.”

Founded in 1885 when a group of Boston Symphony musicians presented a concert of "light music of the best class," the Boston Pops present familiar classical and pop tunes that all ages can enjoy. The orchestra performs hundreds of shows in Boston, across the U.S. and internationally. The annual 4th of July concert from the Esplanade in Boston attracts more than 300,000 people and is viewed by more than 20 million people on CBS television. “Evening at Pops,” the longest-running concert program on TV, features 13 nationwide broadcasts each season. The Boston Pops’ recordings are released by RCA.

Lockhart took over as conductor of the Boston Pops in 1995, and has now been on the podium for 12 years. He succeeded such iconic previous conductors as Arthur Fiedler, who conducted the Pops for nearly 50 years (from 1930 until his death in 1979) and movie composer John Williams, who led the orchestra from 1980 until 1993.

Hailed as “Broadway’s Golden couple,” Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley have both enjoyed successful Broadway careers that have crossed over into performances with symphonies and at concert halls and cabaret venues. Marin is a three-time Tony Award nominee for her performances in Stephen Sondheim’s Passion (recorded for PBS), Ragtime and the hit revival of Kiss Me Kate (Outer Critics Circle Award), which also garnered her an Olivier Award nomination for the London, West End run. Jason won a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut in the Harold Prince directed revival of Candide. He took it all off on Broadway and in London in The Full Monty and is also well known for his performance in the cult hit musical Floyd Collins.

Together and individually they have had many return engagements as guest artists with The New York Pops, Boston Pops, Philly Pops and the San Francisco Symphony as well as appearances with the Utah, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Buffalo Symphonies and the Hollywood Bowl orchestra. They created an evening of duets for Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. Variety praised them as "romantic, dash & daring…a celebration of Broadway, a celebration of love…When they sing, the heart seems to beat a little faster.”
